I currently send a quarterly newsletter from my website with basic information about my books and what I’m working on. But as I’ve been asked to present writing workshops and have given a couple master classes for writers organization, I felt now was the time to step up my game and create a more active writing community for both my readers and aspiring writers. I feel Substack is the best way to do this.

When I sold my first book, I had a blog called Murder She Writes with my critique group. It expanded to include other writers. At one point it was a very popular blog with thousands of hits a day, but over the years it faltered, people came and went, and we decided to shut it down. I’ll be moving some of the best articles about writing and the writers life over here in an archive section once I get the hang of this site and start posting regularly.

My goal for Substack is to be more engaged, to write what interests me, to create original content as well as re-publish some of my short stories, to offer workshops (paid and unpaid), and possibly a serialized novel. The possibilities are endless! It’s just a matter of time — my time! With five kids (though only two still at home) and writing 2.5 books a year, adding anything to my schedule takes me time and love — I want to love what I’m doing.

Until I get my ducks in a row, my posts will be infrequent, but I hope by the end of the summer I’ll be on a regular schedule.
