Small world! I would have gone to Carlmont, but I ended up getting a scholarship to Menlo. I lived on Beverly for 2 years, before we moved into my grandmother's house on Tamarack when she wanted to move into a 55+ condo. (You're my cousin Matt's age! He was born in 1970.)
Oh boy, do I remember the banana slugs too! I grew up right over the hill, and below San Carlos in Palo Alto, and later Los Altos Hills. I remember the days hiking and sliding down the hills on cardboard boxes, avoiding trees. Cutting apricots all summer. I think one summer I earned a whole $100. Great place to grow up, daydream and remember forever. Thanks for those wonderful visuals!
When I was 10 or 11, John Horgan, a columnist for the local San Mateo paper, wrote up a column about me and the banana slug. I'd just come back from my week-long field trip to Jones Gulch where I learned all about them ... and kissed one. Unfortunately, the slug didn't turn into a prince. :)
Such a lovely trip down memory lane. I had no idea you were from. San Carlos! I grew up there. Small world. Your pics are lovely, and how great is it you and your mom got to spend time with your uncle and cousin.
Definitely a small world! We lived in a couple of houses in San Carlos, but the longest time we lived on Tamarack, just up the street from St. Charles Church.
What wonderful memories you've shared.
I feel like I was there with you <3
I forgot you were from the San Carlos area .. you're a year younger than I and I went to Carlmont
